The first step is to eliminate the muscle spasms and
pain. We recommend moist heat packs, muscle massage, and switching
to a soft diet. Sometimes drugs are necessary to eliminate the pain.
Correcting
the way that the teeth fit together is the major solution to this problem.
Once a diagnosis is made, treatment can be prescribed. A diagnosis
can take several months to uncover the extensive parameters that are
effecting the TMD. A diagnostic bite splint is usually necessary
for this process.

About insurance coverage: TMJ disorder is a medical problem, not dental, although most non-surgical treating providers are dentists.
