It’s called “sleep dentistry” or IV
Conscious Sedation, and it may well be the greatest
advance ever made towards truly anxiety and pain-free
dentistry procedures.
Dental appointments can cause anxiety for a variety
of reasons. Previous bad physical or emotional experiences,
such as pain, or even just the awkward position required
to perform dental work leads many patients to avoid
the dentists at all costs. We all have our own sense
of personal space. And if hands and tools must enter
the mouth, the feeling can get claustrophobic or worse.
Fortunately, there’s an antidote to this anxiety.
Our pledge to you is to reduce the trigger points that
raise anxiety through every aspect of the dental procedure.
Our initial interview will not even involve a dental
chair, just a comfortable environment to talk and gain
trust. From this point to the point of treatment, your
comfort will be handled by our empathetic and caring
staff; they are dedicated to make the entire process
anxiety free for you to receive the care you need.
Here’s some information about how sleep dentistry
works: You’ll probably take a medication the night
before your treatment visit. You’ll need a friend
to help transport you to and from the office safely.
When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll
be awake and feeling a little drowsy. Most importantly,
you’ll be relaxed and anxiety free. After you
arrive, you’ll receive some sedation medication
(if you or a trusted “friend” desire to
know more about the specifics, call our office and we’ll
explain it all). The sedation medication will not put
you to sleep, but you may very well fall asleep. Best
of all, you will not remember the appointment. The medication
induces a temporary amnesia effect.
While you’re in the chair, Dr. Wais and his
staff monitor you constantly. You won’t be unconscious,
you’ll just enjoy a soothing mental and emotional
“distance” from the experience.
Next thing you’ll know, Dr. Wais is telling you
the procedure is complete and it is time to go home.
If you’re considering sleep dentistry, it’s
best to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Wais
in his private office. No dental chairs, just a chance
to discuss your concerns with Dr. Tom personally to
see whether he can help you with your sleep/sedation
dentistry needs. We take pride in your comfort. Discover
